Below is a copy of an email we have just sent out to our mailing list. We have two animals make the semi finals of the prestigious “Steak of Origin competition”. We are absolutely stoked:-
We are shipping more beef this coming Monday – but I will send another email tomorrow to let you know what we have.
The news I wanted to share with you tonight is that two of our beasts have just been announced today as getting through to the semi finals of Lamb and Beef’s prestigious “Steak of Origin” (for the best steak in the country).
We are thrilled with this – and I hope that those of you who also sampled these beasts were impressed.
The semi finalists are chosen from a scientific test to see whose steak is the most tender. The finalists (And ultimate winner) are selected from a taste test. Whilst the later is a subjective test – the scientific test is the one that we cherish the most. In fact we believe that one of our two beasts might be the most tender of all the European breeds in the competition. Yahoo!!
Whilst Piedmontese and Piedmontese cross animals are genetically the most tender of all breeds (and the most healthy), most of this genetic tenderness is lost by the slaughter process. The biggest factor in countering this is by having the animals live in a stress free environment. We love our animals and make a real point of ensuring they are ethically raised is a stress free environment and enjoy the brief life on Lake Farm. It is for this reason that we are so thrilled to get such recognition.
The finalists are announced this coming Friday – and then the competition concludes on Tuesday night with a gala dinner in Fielding with a blind taste test of the final 20 steaks.
We will let you know how we get on.
And look for our email tomorrow – we have two more great animals to ship!
