We came third in 2010 Steak of Origin competition

“Mario” – our Simmental/Piedmontese crossbred steer came third in the Crossbred section of the Steak of Origin. To get to the last three in New Zealand in this popular category is pretty stunning – so we are delighted. The winner of this section (a Limousin/Angus cross animal) was also the Grand Champion, so we know it was a tough section to enter – and to win.
We submitted three Piedmontese crossed animals into the competition, and all three got through to the semi finals. The semi final stage is the scientific section of the competition. Steaks are tested for tenderness and low PH. To have all three animals go through was simply stunning, and a strong affirmation that our animals are pretty special.
So whilst we would have loved to have won the competition, we are genuinely very happy to have achieved so much!
