We make the Steak of Origin 2011 Semi finals
Apr 23 2011
How cool!
We had two beasts get through to the semi finals of this prestigious competition.
“Nico” is a Piedmontese/Hereford cross steer and “Muzza” is a Piedmontese Murray Grey steer. Both have made it to the semi final stage, it was announced by Beef and Lamb New Zealand.
We are thrilled – as it is now three years in a row that we have made it to the semi final stage. We won the “Grand Champion Brand” in 2009 and we came third in the Best of Crossbred section in 2010. Our 2010 entries were rated as the tenderest in the competition.
The fact we have now done this three years in a row proves (to me anyway) that the result is not a flash in the pan – but reward for a consistent breeding program using Piedmontese crossed animals to produce meat that is tender, tasty AND healthy.
We are not farming cattle – we are in the business if delivering an exceptional eating experience. Results like this give us encouragement that we are on the right path.
The next stage is public taste tests. This is much more of a “pig in a poke” – to date none of the tasting tests show consistent results. The initial semi final testing is a scientific test to find the tenderest animals. Thats the one that gives us the greatest satisfaction. The public taste tests will determine the finalists – and that’s going to happen in early May. Fingers crossed – but anything after this is a bonus!
We are delighted!
